FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University baseball team took time away from the field to participate in the local Miracle League Program on Friday, Nov. 5th.
First year head coach Greg Brown states he was, “proud of his 45 players and felt humbled after the experience because of their ability to touch those children’s lives in such a positive way.”
The Miracle League program of Pembroke Pines was established for disabled children, in order to give them the opportunity to play baseball and experience what it’s like to be on a team. The organization is funded by donations, which has provided these children with a complete complex where they host weekly games every Friday night. The organization looks for local baseball players to volunteer time to buddy with a player in order to aid and encourage them throughout the entire game.
“The support is amazing and the joy the children get out of the hour long game is tremendous,” said Brown.
Brown is also looking to begin a strong relationship with the organization.
“In those children’s minds we’re the same as big leaguers and if we can create bonds with them, it goes beyond just the hour we spend at the game. It’s life impacting for them,” said Brown.
He looks forward to possibly bringing the kids out to throw first pitches at their home games and keeping them involved with the NSU baseball program as well.
