With 17 athletic teams on campus, the Nova Southeastern Sharks are always competing at the highest level. If you did not get a chance to follow your favorite teams this weekend, here is what you missed:
SWIMMING AND DIVING
The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving teams
rolled past Rollins in their head-to-head meet Saturday. The men won, 132-64, and the women won, 131.5-64.5.
Newcomers
Erin Black (Jr., Fort Myers, Fla.) and
Addison Cates (Fr., Port Charlotte, Fla.) put together standout performances for the Sharks. Black posted a NCAA B-qualifying time of
5:07.44 in the 500-yard freestyle, less than two seconds off of the NSU record (5:05.97) she set on Oct. 15, 2011. Cates posted two NCAA B-qualifying times, one in the in the 500-free (4:41.96) and the other in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.64).
The Sharks dominated throughout the meet, winning 17 of 22 races. The 400-yard individual medley for both the men and women was the perfect example of the Sharks dominance, as the men finished in first, second, and third-place, as did the women.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Nova Southeastern men’s and women’s cross country teams wrapped up their 2011 season Saturday, Nov. 5 at the NCAA regional championship’s
placing sixth and third overall, respectfully.
Kevin Meagher (Jr., Mansfield, Mass.), the front runner of the weekend for the Sharks, just barely missed the national qualifying mark by a mere five seconds with a total finishing time of 32:28. This time engraves Meagher in the record books as the
school’s third fastest 10K race, only three seconds shy of the title.
VOLLEYBALL
The NSU volleyball team dropped its final road match of the season Friday evening,
falling at No. 5 Tampa, 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-8, 25-21).
Two Sharks,
Danielle Graham (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) and
Anabely Escarpita (Sr., Boca Raton, Fla.), and Jessica Yingling from Tampa, tallied match-highs with 13 kills apiece.
Jordan Pappas (Jr., Naperville, Ill.) recorded a double-double for NSU with
38 assists and 11 digs.
