With 17 athletic teams on campus, the Nova Southeastern Sharks are always competing at the highest level. If you did not get a chance to follow your favorite teams this weekend, here is what you missed:
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The NSU men’s basketball team took its first loss of Sunshine State Conference play this past Saturday when the Sharks were
downed by the Eckerd Tritons in St. Petersburg, Fla., 68-58.
The score did not accurately paint the picture of how the game was played as the Sharks controlled the contest until the last five minutes. NSU led by as much as 11 points in the second half before the offense fell apart down the stretch. The Sharks scored their final field goal with 5:13 remaining on the clock while Eckerd continued to pile on points to earn a double-digit win. It was the fifth straight time the Sharks lost to Eckerd by double digits.
Jacob Reed (So., Perth, Australia) had his best game of the season Saturday as he
scored a team-high 10 points.
Justin Jeangerard (Fr., Weaverville, Calif.) tied him for the team-lead in points with 10 of his own.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The NSU women’s basketball team played its first Sunshine State Conference road game of the season Saturday at Eckerd. The Tritons shot 52 percent, including 4-of-7 on 3-point attempts, in the second half to
surge past the Sharks, 71-55.
The Sharks were able to hang with the Tritons in the first half, despite committing 17 first half turnovers. NSU was down only two, 24-22, before Eckerd closed the half on a 9-0 run. Eckerd continued to put points on the board in bunches in the second half, pulling away from the Sharks with a 15-1 run over a five minute stretch.
Jada Buckner (Sr., Loudon, Tenn.)
scored a game-high 15 points, but a trio of Tritons notched double figures.
Danielle Robinson (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) recorded four steals to go with her 12 points.
