DAY TWO FINAL RESULTS
DAY TWO PRELIMINARY RESULTS
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving teams reached the halfway point of the second annual Shark Invitational Saturday at the NSU Aquatic Center.
Both the men’s and women’s teams maintained their second place standing after day two. The No. 9 men have 589 points, 92.5 points behind No. 11 Tampa. The No. 14 women’s team has 626 points, 125 points behind No. 9 Tampa.
The preliminaries started with the 400-yard IM, an event in which Sharks on the men’s and women’s teams reached NCAA B-cut times. For the women,
Ewa Jamborska (Sr., Katowice, Poland) clinched a spot in the finals with a B-cut time of 4:34.81. On the men’s side,
Jonas Grundstrom(Sr., Fagersta, Sweden) claimed the third best preliminary time by clocking in at 4:05.82, a B-cut time.
In the women’s 100-yard butterfly,
Emma Lawrenz (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.) and
Lauren Chapple (Fr., London, England) put themselves in solid position for the final session by posting times of 57.47 and 57.78, respectively. Both swimmers reached B-cut times and joined
Devan Martin (Jr., Duluth, Ga.), who claimed the final spot in the final. On the men’s side, the Sharks put two swimmers in the final,
Armin Hornikel (Sr., Goose Creek, S.C.) and
Ash Dougan (Sr., Tewkesbury Glouchestershire, England).
A day removed from winning the women’s 1000-yard freestyle,
Erin Black (Jr., Fort Myers, Fla.) showed her versatility by claiming the top preliminary time in the 200-yard freestyle. Black, who clocked in at 1:51.85, joined a Shark-heavy final alongside teammates Chapple, Lawrenz and
Ashley Aranda (Sr., Kenner, La.). All four Sharks posted B-cut times Saturday morning. On the men’s side,
Florian Mehlan (So., Moers, Germany),
Oskar Nordstrand (Jr., Stockholm, Sweden) and
Michael Zislin (Fr., Lighthouse Point, Fla.) both qualified for the final.
The finals began with the 200-yard freestyle medley, where the Sharks came in third and fourth place in the men’s and women’s races, respectively. The women clocked in at 1:37.7 while the men finished in 1:24.57. In the women’s 400-IM, Jamborska claimed fourth place for the Sharks by slightly improving her time to 4:34.71. Grundstrom had a solid finish in the men’s 400-IM final, claiming second place with a time of 4:05.33.
Both Lawrenz and Chapple came through with top-6 finishes in the final of the women’s 100-butterfly. Lawrenz came in third with a time of 57.29 while Chapple claimed sixth with a time of 58.08. On the men’s side, Hornikel was the top finisher in sixth place with a time of 51.42.
Black took home her team’s only finals win in the 200-freestyle and set a new NSU record. She won the race with a time of 1:51.21. In the men’s 200-freestyle, Nordstrand and Mehlan both rounded out the top-5. Nordstrand claimed fourth with a time of 1:41.90 and Mehlan clocked in at 1:42.52, good for fifth.
The night was capped off by the 400-yard medley relay as the women’s team claimed third place and the men claimed fourth. The women’s team clocked in at 3:56.12 while the men finished in 3:25.37.
The Sharks will continue the Shark Invitational Sunday at 10 a.m. at the NSU Aquatic Center.
