FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University Director of Athletics
Michael Mominey named
Amanda Brown and
Garrett Runion as head coaches of NSU’s women’s and men’s golf teams on Tuesday. Both coaches who served as assistant coaches under three-time NCAA National Championship winner Kevin Marsh, earned their respective positions after successful runs as interim head coaches during the fall season.
“We are looking forward to both Amanda and Garrett continuing with successful traditions that have been established with both the men’s and women’s programs,” Mominey said. “They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their respective positions and we look forward to another successful year of NSU golf.”
As a former NSU student-athlete (2001-05) and All-American (2002), Brown returned to NSU in 2007 and served as the assistant coach for four seasons before being named Associate Head Coach in Oct., 2010. She has had one of the most decorated resumes of anyone in NSU athletic history, helping guide the women’s team to three consecutive NCAA National Division II National titles, four South Region Championships, three Sunshine State Conference Championships and 34 event titles. She also helped coach two golfers (
Maria Garcia Austt and
Sandra Changkija), who combined for five NCAA Division II National Player of the Year awards between 2007 and 2011.
“I've been grateful for the unique opportunity to coach at my alma mater for the last five years,” said Brown. “I'm excited about being named head coach and I look forward to leading the women's golf team to continued success in the classroom and on the course.”
After serving as a team captain for three years while playing at Louisiana State, Runion joined the men’s golf staff and led the Sharks to a successful run as assistant coach last season. The men’s golf team finished the year with seven top-five finishes throughout the fall and spring seasons. Runion also helped guide the Sharks to their third SSC title in six years. The Sharks placed four players in the top-13 at the conference tournament, including
Ricardo Celia (So., Barranquilla, Columbia) who nearly won a playoff to take the home individual title.
“I am honored to follow Kevin Marsh as the next head coach of the men's golf team at NSU,” stated Runion. “I am grateful that Mike Mominey entrusted me to take over one of the top men’s programs in the country. I look forward to doing everything I can to not only continue the great tradition already established here, but take to the next level.”
