FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern’s
Luis Penate (Sr., Miami, Fla.) earned his first SSC Player of the Week award for his strong play against Southern New Hampshire and then sixth ranked Tampa.
The shortstop batted .500 with three runs and eight RBI. He hit safely in all four games and posted three multiple-hit contests en route to a .632 on-base percentage. Three of his hits were extra-base hits, as he tallied a .929 slugging percentage.
Penate came up big in the second contest of the Tampa series, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. He hit a home run in the first inning to tie the score at 2-2 and then drove in the winning run with a walk-off single that gave NSU a 7-6 victory to clinch the series. He was 2-for-3 in stolen base attempts.
This is the second SSC Player of the Week honor for the Sharks this season and the first since
Andrew Durden (Sr., Port St. Lucie, Fla.) received the honor after his first week as a Shark.
Penate and the Sharks will return to the field this Tuesday, March 15 against Franklin Pierce at the NSU Baseball Complex at 6 p.m.
