Women’s Soccer Bombards Wingate with Four Goals

Broberg scored one goal and recorded two assists

BOX SCORE

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga –
The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (3-0) scored goals from all-over the lot defeating Wingate (1-2), 4-1, notching its second consecutive four-goal game. The win gives the Sharks its first 3-0 start since 2006 when they won eight-straight to begin the season.

Malin Broberg (So., Stockholm, Sweden) led the assault with one goal and two assists for the Sharks. Shanoska Young  (Sr., Kingston, Jamaica),  Andi Burchfield (Fr., Greenville, S.C.) and Shadia Blair (Fr., Springfield, Mass.) all scored a goal, Burchfield scored her first goal of the season and Blair scored her first collegiate career goal.

Young scored the first goal of the game, her second of the season and second within the first six minutes of the game scoring 4:35 into the game. Young’s goal was one of six shots between the teams, with three apiece.

The low shot total for both teams was due to the testy and physical nature of both teams’ play. In the first, both teams combined for 14 fouls, the Sharks committed eight and Wingate committed six. In comparison, in its previous match a 4-3 (2OT) win over Tusculum, the Sharks only committed 10 fouls.

The fouls reduced in the second for the Sharks as they committed only one but the goals increased starting with Broberg’s left footed blast into the net assisted by Young at 49:50. Broberg would follow up the goal with an assist, attempting a header which ricocheted to Blair to score at 53:34.

Broberg and Rachael Reid (Sr., Plainfield, Ind.) would contribute to the next Sharks goal assisting Burchfield with a cross from the right side to the left side of the field.

Winning goalkeeper Chrissy Hy (Sr., Weston, Fla.)(3-0) collected five saves and allowed one goal in 81:43 for the Sharks. Carolina Garcia (Fr., Miami, Fla.)made her debut in goal for the Sharks making a save in 8:17.

Ashlyn Hardie (1-2) was credited with the loss for Wingate after logging 90-minutes, allowing four goals, and making three saves.

Meaghan Barry assisted Chandler Murphy for Wingate’s goal at 76:54.

The Sharks play again Wednesday, Sept., 14 at the NSU Soccer Complex against Johnson & Wales at 7 p.m.
