Women’s Soccer Ranked in the Top-25

The Sharks are on a three game winning-streak

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team has been tabbed 21st in the nation, according to National Soccer Coaches Association, as released Tuesday.

The reigning Sunshine State Conference regular season champions are picking up where they left off last season, winning the first three games by a margin of five goals. The most impressive win came in the season opener, against then ranked No.19 West Florida at the NSU Soccer Complex.

This past weekend the Sharks traveled up to Milledgeville, Georgia for their first away from home matches of the season, facing off against Tusculum and Wingate.

The Sharks defeated Tusculum in a thrilling 4-3 victory lasting two overtime periods. The golden goal came off the boot of Sierra Lelii (Fr., Seminole, Fla.), the first colligate goal for the promising freshmen forward. Contributions for the Sharks also came from Malin Broberg (So., Stockholm, Sweden) who had a pair of goals as well as, Shanoska Young (Sr., Kingston, Jamaica) who scored her first goal of the season.

On Sunday the Sharks defeated Wingate in blowout fashion. Young got the Sharks going in the first half with her second goal of the season. In second half the Sharks were led by Broberg who scored her team leading third goal of the season.

Following the quick start to the half the Sharks jumped all over Wingate with goals from Shadia Blair (Fr., Springfield, Mass.) and Andi Burchfield (Fr., Greenville, S.C.) both of which were the first of their careers.  Chrissy Hy (Sr., Weston, Fla.) (3-0) had five saves and conceived only one goal in the 81st minute.

The Sharks look to continue their dominance Wednesday, Sept., 14 at the NSU Soccer Complex against Johnson & Wales at 7 p.m.
