TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern tennis team continued competition Saturday at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational, hosted by Rollins.
NSU picked up two victories in the D draw, as sophomore
Bianca Roberts (So., Fort Walden Beach, Fla.) defeated NCAA Division-I Bethune Cookman’s Gaby Chinchilla, 6-3, 4-6 (7). She launched herself into the semifinals with a win over Rollins’ Emma Wookey, 6-3, 6-4.
Roberts would go on to fall to Central Florida's Anna-Sophie Porry in the semifinals on Sunday. Roberts had the best tournament of her fall run, only losing to the eventual winner of the draw.
In the B singles draw,
Austin Lavallii (Sr., Williamston, Mich.) competed against Barry’s Isabela Miro but dropped into the consolation draw, 6-2, 6-1.
Iryna Serdyuk (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) also dropped her match in the B draw, falling to Moria Benkirane of Saint Leo, 6-2, 6-0.
In the C draw,
Charlotte Cote (So., Montreal, Canada) faced tough D-I competition with Caroline Eberhart of Central Florida and dropped her match, 6-3, 6-0.
Linda Kornienko (Fr., Fort Myers, Fla.) dropped her C draw match against Caroline Eberhart of Central Florida, 6-1, 6-1.
Both Cote and Kornienko bounced back in the consolation draw. Cote took a win over Hillsborough Community College’s Kenya Puig, 6-2, 6-0. Kornienko pushed herself past Flagler’s Madeline Wilburn, 6-2, 6-1.
In the final draw,
Luisa Pintado (Fr., Guadalajara, Mexico) lost to Central Florida’s Anna-Sophie Porry, 6-1, 6-1. Wrapping up singles play was
Emily Hart (Fr., Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago), who fell to Ashley Loft of Rollins, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles play, Cote and Rizzolo lost to the team of Vukadinovic/Kriz of Lynn, 8-4. Roberts and Pintado also dropped their match, falling to Lynn’s Berkova/Przeslowski, 8-2.
The Sharks will wrap up play at the C. L. Varner Invitational on Sunday in Winter Park, Fla.
