MEN'S RESULTS
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Nova Southeastern men’s cross country team has won the NCAA South Region Championship and qualified for the NCAA National Championship Saturday.
The Sharks reached a milestone, as the first male team in NSU history to win a South Region Championship. The win also clinches the program’s second berth into the NCAA National Championship. The championship race will be held in Joplin, Mo. on Nov. 17.
“This was one of the best races this team has run all season,” said head coach
Bryan Hagopian. “The men looked awesome today and we
couldn't have done it without the help of the entire staff, from assistant coaches to our athletic trainer. They all had a hand in earning this.”
Kevin Meagher (Sr., Mansfield, Mass.) will return to Nationals after racing there as a freshman in 2009. Meagher led his squad to a regional title by setting a new program record in the 10K. He finished seventh overall with a time of 32:23.22, two seconds faster than the previous record set in 2007.
Timo Kilp (Jr., Tallin, Estonia) was the second of four top-20 finishers for the men. Kilp finished in 13th place with a time of 32:53.12. Right behind Kilp was freshman
Jordan Brown (Gainesville, Fla.) with time of 32:53.95.
Long Tran (Jr., Saigon, Vietnam) secured his second-straight top-20 finish in 17th place with a time of 32:57.66.
The top-four men’s times have reset the record books at NSU. Prior to Saturday, only three Sharks have ever run the 10K in under 33 minutes.
Also scoring for the men was
Omar Hernandez (Sr., Rio Pic, Ariz.) with a time of 33:19 flat, a career-best time.
Nico Crecco (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) finished with a time of 35:28.40 while
Nicholas Hogan (So., Peoria, Ariz.) clocked in at 35:44.97.
