PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Daniela Ortiz shot even-par on Tuesday to notch the lowest score for the Nova Southeastern women's golf team as the 2013 Guy Harvey Invitational wrapped up at PGA National.
Ortiz's (Jr., Morelia, Mexico) two-round total of 151 (79-72) also marked her first top-10 finish of the year, in a tie for that slot.
Katrina Wang (Fr.,Shenzhen, China) was next for the Sharks with a 159 (81-78), tying her for 37th.
Rachel Lewis (Sr., Cardiff, Wales), with a 166 (79-87), and
Alejandra Velasco (Fr., Jalisco, Mexico), at 168 (78-90), finished out the scoring for NSU, who also finished in a tie for 10th among teams at 644.
Lynn took home both the team and individual titles, setting or tying records in the process. Their team total of 584 (291-290) is a new tournament best, three strokes ahead of NSU's 584 in 2010. The second round score of 290 ties the Sharks' mark, also in 2010.
Rollins finished second (606), followed by Florida Tech (610). SCAD-Savannah (618) and Indianapolis (621) rounded out the top five.
Samantha Smolen of the Fighting Knights topped the individual leaderboard at 139 (69-70). That ties the tournament record, previously set by Joanna Coe of Rollins in 2009.
The runner-up was Nicky Ferre of Barry, with a 1-under-par 143 (73-70). Smolen's Lynn teammate, Louise Manelo, finished third at even-par (74-70—144).
The Sharks next travel to Buies Creek, N.C., for the Fighting Camel Classic, hosted by Campbell University. The two-day event will take place Oct. 21-22 at the Keith Hills Golf Club.
