COMPLETE TOURNAMENT BRACKET
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern women's basketball team was chosen on Sunday night as the No. 1 seed, and as such the host, of the South Region in the 2013 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship tournament.
The Sharks (20-8) will face No. 8 seed Clark Atlanta (19-10), winners of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, this Friday, March 15, at 6 p.m. at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center. These two teams met up earlier in the season on this same floor, Nov. 17 in the NSU Classic. The Sharks came away with a 91-62 victory.
"Our players, coaches and administration were very excited to see that we were selected to host the NCAA South Region," said head coach LeAnn Freeland. "Only eight teams in all of NCAA DII get the opportunity to host, and it is very humbling to know we got one of those nods."
This selection marks the first time that NSU has hosted a postseason national tournament as the top seed in any sport, a result of much effort put in by not only the team itself, but also by the NSU administration.
"Our administration has been working tirelessly over the past couple of weeks just in case we were selected," said Freeland. "It is nice to know their hard work paid off. Our players and coaches want to thank them for their dedication and faith in us, and I am confident that all eight teams selected to play here will have a tremendous experience at NSU and in the Fort Lauderdale area."
In all, the arena will play host to seven games: all four first round contests on Friday, the two second round matchups on Saturday, March 16, and the South Region Championship on Monday, March 18. The winner advances to the national quarterfinal round for the final 16 teams in the tournament, which will be held at the Bill Greely Arena in San Antonio, beginning March 26.
Here is the entire schedule of games to be played at the NSU Arena:
