No 1. Women’s Golf Takes Second in Playoff Final at SSC Tournament; Cammisa Receives Medalist Honors

Sharks fell by one-stroke in a playoff, coming from behind.

FINAL RESULTS

SAINT LEO, Fla.
- The No.1 Nova Southeastern women’s golf team, coming from behind, gave a strong effort at the 2013 Sunshine State Conference Golf Championship at Dade City's Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club, competing in a playoff tie-breaker to capture the title but fell short by one-stroke. The women shot a three round +45 (303-308-298—909).

The Sharks, after leading through the first day, slid slightly in the second round, dropping to fourth on the leaderboard and trailing by seven-strokes, heading into todays final round. NSU battled back with their lowest team round of the tournament a +10 (298) to pull even with Florida Southern, +45 (313-291-305—909), forcing a playoff. The Sharks were unable to pull through in the two-team playoff, which ended their SSC Championship streak.

Leading the way for the Sharks throughout the entire tournament was Liliana Cammisa (So., Alta Gracia, Argentina), who captured the individual victory shooting a +7 (74-77-72—223). Cammisa flirted with the top spot the entire tournament until making her move in the final round, shooting an even par to claim medalist honors over Barbara Vejiupkova from Florida Southern and Jessica Bradley from Barry, who shared second, one-stroke back.

Trailing Cammisa by only four-strokes was teammate Daniela Ortiz (So., Morelia, Mexico), who put together her lowest round today, shooting a one-over, 73. Ortiz made daily progress to climb the leaderboard and take a share of sixth, shooting a +11 (78-76-73—227).

With three identical rounds Abbey Gittings (Sr., Tamworth, England) captured a share of eighth, shooting a +12 (76-76-76—228). Gittings was the only player in the entire field to card the same score, three consecutive rounds with her, 76’s.

Due to Rachel Lewis (Jr., Cardiff, Wales) not participating in the final round the Sharks were left to only four active Golfers. Linnea Johansson (Fr., Vaxjo, Sweden), who rounded out the scores for NSU had a bit of an off tournament compared to her usual performances, carding a +15 (75-79-77-231) to take 13th on the leaderboard.

With a couple weeks off the Sharks will now prepare for the NCAA South Regional Tournament where they will embark on defending their national reign on the road to nationals.
