Track and Field Completes Run At The Peach Belt Conference Championships

Osteen and Bowman take home track and field women of the meet honors.

ROME, Ga
. – The Nova Southeastern men’s and women’s track and field teams completed competition at the Peach Belt Conference Championships. The women took second behind Alabama-Huntsville with 163 points. The Shark men finished in third place behind North Carolina Pembroke and Alabama-Huntsville with 133 points.

"I am just so proud of both teams," said head coach Bryan Hagopian. "We really stepped it up today and this meet is a great stepping stone leading to the end of the season."

Most notably, the Sharks had two athletes named Co-PBC Runners of the Year on the women’s side in Jessica Osteen (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) and Peri Bowman (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.).

Osteen won the 400-meter run with a NCAA automatic qualifying standard with a time of 56.07, a meet record. She also was the 400-meter hurdles champion with a time of 1:01.97 to make her second provisional qualifying time of the meet. Osteen then continued her success and participated in the 4x400 relay where the she led off for theSharks as they won the event with a stadium record time of 3:49.13. The team included: Monica Sapp (Fr., Miami, Fla.), Quannisha Allen (Fr., St. Augustine, Fla.) and Johniqua Stafford (Sr., Fort Worth, Texas). 

Bowman, the first NSU conference champion, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:11.69. Bowman took third in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18.21.1.Bowman took a fourth place in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:57.31.

Freshman duo Ciona Williams (Stockton, Ca.) and Nicole Poole (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) came in second and third in the 200 meter dash with times of 25.26 and 25.58, respectively. They continued to follow one another in the 100 meter dash coming in third and fourth with times of 12.46 and 12.68, respectively.

On the men’s side, NSU took its first win in the 4x400-meter relay team of Talyn Washington (So., Royal Palm Beach, Fla.), Robert Moise (Jr., Plantation, Fla.), Uguens Decius (Fr., Miami, Fla.) and Patrico Morency (So., Naples, Fla.) shattered the stadium record with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:15.00.

Washington continued his winning streak by taking the 200 and 400 meter runs with times of 21.99 and 48.61, respectively. 

In the 110 meter hurdle event, Morency took another first-place finish with a time of 15.33. 

In the field events, Ryan Jerothe (So., New Port Richey, Fla.) took second-place in the pole vault with a leap of 4.70 meters. Darren Hendricks (Fr., North Port, Fla.) also placed second in the discus throwing 40.00 meters.

Women's Shot Put: Nyiro, 10.06 meters, seventh place
Women's 1,500 meter run: Brittaney Smash (Jr., Arlington,Texas) 
Women's 800 meter run: Aimee Sims, 2:26.36, sixth place
Men's Long Jump: Derrick Wood (Jr., Royal Palm Beach, Fla.), 1.93 meters, third place
Men's 5000 Meter Run:  Timo Kilp (So., Kose, Estonia), 15:33.51, third place
Men's Triple Jump: Wood, 13.41, fourth place
Men's 800 Meter Run: Decius, 01:59.46, seventh place
Men's Shot Put: Ben Futerman (Jr., Freehold, N.J.), 35.31 meters, third place
Women's 400 Meter Dash: Allen, 57.63, third place; Sapp, 58.08, fourth place

The Sharks will return to the track when they head to Drake Relays on April 25.
