CURRENT LEARFIELD SPORTS DIRECTORS' CUP STANDINGS

CLEVELAND
– After the completion of six winter NCAA Championships, Nova Southeastern University has earned the No. 19 spot in the most recent Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings. Having finished in the top-25 the previous two years at the conclusion of the spring championship season, this is the highest position NSU has held since joining the NCAA.

“The Sports Directors’ Cup is a great measurement tool for the overall success of an athletic program,” Director of Athletics Michael Mominey said. “We are thrilled to be ranked 19th out of the 212 institutions and we hope to improve on that as enter the spring championship seasons.”

The Sharks athletic programs earned a total of 193 points during the winter championship season. Finishing fifth overall, the women’s basketball team earned 73 points, while men’s swimming earned 60 points with a 10th-place finish and the women added another 60 points for finishing 15th at the national championship. NSU came into the winter championships with 87 total points combined from men’s and women’s cross country and now have 280 total points heading into the spring championship season.

Ashland took the lead with 589, while Grand Valley State fell one spot in the standings to second overall with 558.50. Grand Canyon increased its total to 531.50 and remains third overall in the standings and Colorado School of Mines is in fourth with 446. Rounding out the top five is Adams State with 440.50 points.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women’s and seven men’s. The final Division II winter standings will be released Thursday, April 11.
