Obringer Named to NCAA Elite 89

Obringer first to earn honor at NSU.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Nova Southeastern rower Kelsey Obringer (So., Port Republic, N.J.) has been named to the Elite 89, as announced in Indianapolis, Ind. prior to the NCAA Division II Rowing National Championship.

The Elite 89, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA championships.

Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.

Obringer most recently earned a cumulative 3.94 GPA as a political science major, putting her above all athletes in the field of six rowing programs at nationals. On the water, Obringer has been a strong part of the four boat throughout the season. She has competed in the varsity-4 in three events this season, and raced against the top schools in the country in the open four at Dad Vails.

This is the first time NSU has placed an athlete in the Elite 89, a program that started four seasons ago.
