FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team and head coach Lesa Boneè has announced their 2014 recruiting class. This class is comprised of nine new Sharks, five freshmen and four transfers.
Katrina Ammons, a junior transfer from Brevard Community College, played in 55 games at first base and was a force at the plate for the Titans. Ammons finished with a .433 batting average, with a team-high four home runs and 76 RBI. Ammons also finished with a .572 slugging percentage, second best on the team. Boneè will look for her to be a threat at the plate and become a big run producer. Ammons is a native of Jacksonville, Fla.
Katey Blummer is an incoming freshman from Naples, Fla., who played her high school ball at Gulf Coast High School. Boneè will work her in as a catcher and at third base, and expects Blummer to produce runs and hit for power.
Junior Courtney Bridge is an international student athlete from Port Coquitlam, Canada, who transferred to NSU from the University of Minnesota at Crookston, a Division II school in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Bridge, a lefty slapper, led the Golden Eagles in runs, hits and doubles last season, and will work the middle infield to give the Sharks options and depth.
Shelby Cogan, a junior transfer, played at Division I St. Peters before transferring to Florida Gulf Coast. Cogan is primarily a middle infielder but she can play nearly anywhere on the field. She is a very good base runner with speed and will give the Sharks multiple options and depth in several positions.
Carly Comito is a freshman from Boca Raton, Fla., and went to school at Boca Raton High School. Comito is one of three pitching recruits, but could also see work at first base and can do some damage at the plate. Comito could see quality time in the circle this season and has the opportunity to be an integral part of the program in years to come.
Junior Maegan Lee is a Miami-Dade Junior College transfer, who will be bringing great energy, maturity and leadership to the program. Lee, a native of Homestead, Fla., is a true utility player who also pitches. Boneè is very excited about her enthusiasm and love for the game.
Taylor Rotz is an incoming freshman from Mars, Pa., who went to Mars Area High School. Rotz will add depth to the pitching staff and can also hit for herself.
Rebecca Thornton, a freshman from Eustis, Fla., played her high school ball at Eustis High School. Thornton is a pitcher who is expected to get some playing time, and can be worked in at first and third. Thornton is focused and mature, with great poise in the circle. Boneè will look for her to develop into a leader and to be an integral part of the program throughout her career at NSU.
Dakota Villella is an incoming freshman from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla. She is a versatile player who will work at second base and outfield, and is a lefty slapper who can mix it up with good speed on the bases. Villella will look to be an offensive weapon this year for the Sharks.
The Sharks will look to build on their hot finish from last season, winning their final 11 home games.
