FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern tennis head coach Steve Schram has released the 2013 fall tennis schedule.
"It's a very exciting and crucial time of year because the players have the opportunity to prove themselves on the court by playing in three competitive fall tournaments," said Schram. "These tournaments give the coaches a better assessment of what aspects need to be worked on as we plan ahead for our spring season. I am very optimistic heading into our first fall tournament hosted by the University of New Orleans. We have a very solid team and the players will continue to develop and improve as the fall season progresses."
The Sharks will be competing individually in the fall season, which is used to determine ITA rankings for the spring championship season. The Sharks will kick things off in New Orleans, La. from Sept. 20-22 in the Big Easy Tennis Classic, hosted by the University of New Orleans. The tournament will be hosted at UNO's Tennis Center, which has 20 hard courts located right on Lake Ponchartrain.
The following weekend, the Sharks will compete in the ITA Fall Regional from Sept. 27-30 in Pensacola, Fla. West Florida's Carson Tennis Complex will serve as host for the tournament, a facility that has hosted four NCAA National Championships.
NSU will stay in Florida for their final fall tournament, the C.L. Varner Invitational in Winter Park, Fla. from Oct. 4-6. The Rollins-hosted annual tournament is held at the Bert W. Martin Tennis Complex, which includes six state-of-the-art tennis courts overlooking Lake Virginia.
Head coach Schram was recently brought on as the program's second head coach since tennis was reinstated at NSU. He has inherited a young squad that won eight matches in the spring of 2013.
