GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men's and women's cross country teams each claimed third place Saturday at the University of Florida's Mountain Dew Invitational.
The highest finish of the weekend for either team came from
Alexandria Palm (Sr., Winnebago, Ill.), who claimed sixth place with a 6K time of 22:36.48. It is the fastest she has ran in the 6K in a regular season race and the fourth-best time of her career. She now owns the six fastest 6K times in program history.
On the men's side,
Long Tran (Sr., Saigon, Vietnam) had a breakout race as the Sharks' lead runner, claiming ninth overall. His time of 26:00.24 is the seventh best 8K time in program history and 46 seconds faster than his career-best time.
The event was held for schools from all divisions, with NCAA Division I schools being separated in the standings from the rest of the field. Overall, each team finished behind only one Sunshine State Conference institution.
Peri Bowman (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) finished second among Sharks in 12th place. Her season-debut time of 23:05.52 is her top career regular season time. Behind Bowman was
Katey CoDyre (Bowmanville, Canada), who ran in her first 6K as a Shark. CoDyre finished 15th with a time of 23:15.05.
Rose Howell (Jr., St. Louis, Mo.) finished fourth among Sharks with a time of 23:45.17, her career-best 6K time. Rounding out NSU's top five was
Aimee Sims (Jr., St. Anne, Ill.) with a time of 24:50.94.
On the men's side,
Thomas Ingalls (Fr., St. George, Utah) ran his first collegiate 6K and claimed 17th place. His time of 26:28.87 is one of the program's 20 best 8K times and is on par with what former NSU lead runner Kevin Meagher ran his freshman year. Meagher ran the same time in his second collegiate 8K in 2009.
With a time of 26:44.07,
Luis Gonzalez (Jr., Hereford, Ariz.) made his NSU debut in 24th place. Behind Gonzalez was freshman
