Cross Country Opens Season in Top-5 at Bulls Invite

Men finish third, women finish fourth.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern cross country program kicked off the 2013 season with two top-5 finishes Friday at the South Florida Bulls Invitational. The men claimed third place overall, while the women claimed fourth. 

On the men's side, freshman Wade White (East Stroudsburgh, Pa.) made a strong collegiate debut. White claimed 11th place overall as the Sharks' lead runner with a time of 15:13.36. Katey CoDyre (So., Bowmanville, Canada) claimed 17th place with a time of 18:12.20. 

The men's third-palce finish put them ahead of Sunshine State Conference schools Saint Leo, Tampa, Rollins and Florida Tech. Behind White by less than a second was Long Tran (Sr., Saigon, Vietnam), who clocked in at 15:14.10 in 12th place. Thomas Ingalls (Fr., St. George, Utah) made his debut and finished in 18th place with a time of 15:22.60.

The women's 4th-place finish topped Florida Tech, Florida Southern and Lynn. Rose Howell (Jr., St. Louis, Mo.) was second among Shark ladies with a time of 18:28.15, good for 22nd place. Behind Howell was Aimee Sims (Jr., St. Anne, Ill.) with a time of 19:30.01 and a 54th-place finish. 

The Sharks will compete on Saturday when they return to the Mountain Dew Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida, in Gainesville, Fla. 

*After the event, USF announced that the track was not measured correctly. Therefore, all times do not count towards personal bests or all-time records.
