FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Head coach LeAnn Freeland and the Nova Southeastern University women's basketball team are pleased to announce their first signee for the 2015-16 season in 5-10 guard Megan Piggott from Ponte Vedra, Florida.
Piggott has already scored over 1,500 points in her three years at Ponte Vedra High School (1,540 to be exact). She has also averaged more than four rebounds, three steals and two assists per game over the course of her high school career. As a junior, she posted a scoring average of 23.3 points a contest along with 5.5 rebounds, 4.4 steals and 3.5 assists per.
The Ponte Vedra Sharks are 4-1 thus far this season, with Piggott averaging 29.2 points in the five games, at a successful shooting percentage of 54.4. She's also averaging 5.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 4.4 steals a game.
"Megan is an athletic, skilled and tall guard who has a lot of versatility," said Freeland. "Because of her high basketball IQ and competitive spirit, she is the perfect fit for our program. She has been extremely productive throughout her high school career and we expect her production to continue with us."
Ponte Vedra's team captain and three-time MVP was All-St. John's County honorable mention as a freshman and All-County First Team as both a sophomore and junior. Last year as well, she was named to the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches/Source HoopsClass 5A All-State Third Team, and two years running, has been a member of the All-First Coast Second Team as named by the Florida Times Union.
On top of her on-court successes, Piggott also is a member of both the National Honor Society and FBLA, and maintains a 4.4 GPA.
"Since Megan has only played basketball for five years, we expect her to quickly evolve as a collegiate player," said Freeland. "Even though Megan is outstanding on the court, she may be even better in the classroom. She is arguably one of the top students we have ever signed and look forward to watching her succeed academically. We are proud to announce Megan Piggott is a Shark."
