FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Sophomores
Bryndis Hansen (So., Akureyi, Iceland) and
Thiago Sickert (Vila Velha, Brazil) have been named Sunshine State Conference Swimmers of the Week. It marks Hansen's first SSC honor while Sickert earns his second.
Posting an individual NCAA B-Standard time of 51.98 in the 100-yard freestyle, which ranks fifth nationally, Hansen continued her winning ways this past weekend against the visiting Lynn Fighting Knights on Thursday and the Rollins College Tars on Saturday. Hansen was also part of the 200-yard medley relay team that swam a NCAA B-Standard time of 1:46.68.
Picking up where he left off, Sickert swam a NCAA B-Standard time of 48.12 in the 100-yard butterfly. Prior to the meet, Sickert expressed his desire to break the conference record in that event. Although he was just .05 seconds short, it is a mark that is within reach. Sickert also swam a NCAA B-Standard time of 1:39.50 in the 200-yard free.
Hansen currently has the third best 50-yard free time in DII, while Sickert sits atop DII in the 50- free and 100- free and second in 200- free and 100- fly. His 100-yard backstroke time is sixth best in DII.
