FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University volleyball program has released the 2014 schedule, with its season opener on the road against Flagler on Sept. 5.
The 2014 season marks Jennifer King's debut as NSU's head coach, who joined the Sharks in January as the 11th head coach in program history.
"We're going to be bringing something completely different to the table this fall," said King. "I think that gives us an immediate advantage because people don't know what to expect from us yet. What I can promise is that we will have an exciting new system with a roster that is ready to get after it this year."
The 2014 Sharks, with seven returnees and seven newcomers, will open the season with a tough eight-game road series beginning on Sept. 5. The opening four matches of the Shark season features Flagler, Lewis, New Haven and Palm Beach Atlantic, who all competed in the 2013 DII NCAA Volleyball Championships.
"2014 is starting out with a bang for the Sharks! It is going to be a great measure for us heading into our conference schedule as we will be more than prepared to play elite competition," said King.
NSU will first take on Flagler on Friday, Sept. 5 in Lakeland, Fla. for the Sharks' opening match of the season in the Florida Southern Terrace Classic. They conclude the tournament the following day against Lewis (10 a.m.) and New Haven (5 p.m.).
The Sharks open home court play on Sept. 16 against Colorado Christian and follow with two Sunshine State Conference games against Rollins (Sept. 19) and Eckerd (Sept 20). The team later plays five consecutive conference home games against Lynn (Oct 31), Florida Tech (Nov. 1), Florida Southern (Nov. 7), Saint Leo (Nov. 8) and Barry (Nov. 11).
Notably, the Sharks will also compete in the Eckerd College Classic (Sept. 12–13) in St. Petersburg, Florida and the South Region Crossover (Oct. 1-Oct 18) in Winter Park, Florida.
