TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 4 Nova Southeastern University women's tennis team (15-4) faced a strong No. 5 Lynn team (20-3) in the Sunshine State Conference semifinal round on Friday at the Hillsborough Community College Tennis Complex, but fell to the Fighting Knights, 5-1.
The Sharks, who were seeded second heading into SSC postseason, were unable to tame the Fighting Knights from the start. NSU trailed Lynn after the completion of all doubles matches; the closest fight in doubles was in court No. 1, where
Klaudia Boczova (Jr., Bratislava, Slovakia) and
Sabrina Kierberg (Sr., Munich, Germany) attempted a comeback that extended the match to a tiebreaker, but the Lynn took the decision by the score of 9-7.
Heading into singles, Boczova was the only player for the Sharks to collect a point. Her individual victory concluded after the opponent retired in the second set, as Boczova was leading 6-2 and 3-0.
Petra Jurova (Sr., Bratislava, Slovakia) was attempting a comeback in the No. 3 singles, but as she headed into a third and final set the competition was concluded because Lynn conquered the No. 2 and No. 6 singles to complete the 5-1 victory over NSU.
The Fighting Knights will continue to the finals against the fourth-seeded Barry Bucs team, who defeated the SSC regular season champs Saint Leo Lions, 5-4. The fate of the Sharks is now dependent on the results of the upcoming NCAA Selection Show, which will air the following Tuesday, May 3 at 8:30 p.m. Fans can watch live through
