No. 7 Tennis Overcome Conference Rival No. 40 Florida Southern College
LAKELAND, Fla. –
No. 7 Nova Southeastern University women's tennis team reach the 13th consecutive triumph on Saturday, April 9 versus the No. 40 Florida Southern squad at the Warden Tennis Center in Lakeland, Florida.
The Sharks are now 13-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play with three conference matches pending. The Sharks frenzy dominated the Mocs from the start, as the Fort Lauderdale team won all three doubles matches and five out of six singles games.
The No. 1 duo Petra Jurova
(Sr., Bratislava, Slovakia) and Sabrina Kierberg
(Sr., Munich, Germany) finished 8-6 in favor of the Sharks. Irina Constantinide
(Sr., Galati, Romania) teamed up with Linda Kornienko
(Sr., Fort Myers, Fla.) in the No. 2 doubles for an 8-2 victory. Nastassia Rubel
(Jr., Minsk, Belarus) and Carlee Rizzolo
(Sr., Livingston, N.J.) took the third doubles 8-4 to give the Sharks a perfect initial lead.
In singles matches the Sharks only dropped one and clearly dominated the remaining individual battles. Jurova was lined up in court No. 2 as she defeated the Mocs No. 2 singles by a mark of 6-3, 6-3. Rubel also replicated the Sharks' success with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph in the No. 3 singles. Rizzolo had a perfect score of 6-0, 6-0 in No. 4 singles for the Sharks 6th overall point of the day. Situated in the No. 5 singles battle, Constantinide dominated by 6-1, 6-1 mark. Kornienko had the last court and was sure to represent the Sharks very well with her 6-2, 6-1 win.
Looking ahead the Sharks will move east for their sixth conference matchup versus the No. 34 Rollins Tars in Winter Park, Florida. All matches will begin 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Bert. W. Martin Tennis Complex in Winter Park, Fla.
