Sora, Elleston, Allen and Manuel Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Track and Field collects more awards, this time for academic and athletic excellence

GREENWOOD, Ind.
– Nova Southeastern University track and field athletes Krystine Sora, Jazmine Elleston, Quannisha Allen and Benjamin Manuel earned inclusion on the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District Track and Field Teams, as announced by the organization on Thursday.
 
The 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Track and Field Teams acknowledges the top student-athletes in the nation for their collective enactments athletically and in the classroom. All four Sharks were named in the District 5 teams.
 
In her second year as a Shark, Krystine Sora (So., Saigon, Vietnam) earned a 3.85 grade point average in marine biology. Sora was included on the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Track and Field Team. Previously, Sora was also named to the 2016 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team, publicized on April 13, and is also a member of NSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
 
Sora is the current NSU record holder in the women's heptathlon. She set the record on March 12 at the University of South Florida Invite with a mark of 3,738 points, but broke the record one more time at the Peach Belt Conference Championships on April 22 at 3,778 total points and placing fourth overall. At 3.05 meters, Sora claimed the bronze medal at the Peach Belt Conference Finals in the pole vault on April 21.
 
Also in her second year at NSU, Jazmine Elleston (So., Piscataway, N.J.) set a great example of what a dedicated student-athlete represents by achieving a 3.84 grade point average in biology. Just like Sora, Elleston was also named as 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Track and Field Team member.
 
Elleston flashed to the first spot in the women's 4x100 meter relay with a time of 47:06 at the University of South Florida Invite on March 12. She also claimed first place in the women's triple jump with 11.45 meters at the Shark Invitational on March 16. Most recently Elleston was named to the 2016 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team, announced on April 13. Currently she holds a portion of the fastest time for NSU in the 4000 meter Distance Med Relay at 12:30.89, set on April 4, 2015 at the University of South Florida Invite.
 
Senior Shark Quannisha Allen (Sr., St. Augustine, Fla.) reached a 3.39 grade point average in legal studies, which allowed her to be named to the 2016 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team. Allen is an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at NSU. Her positive attitude and efforts to succeed also permitted her to be part of the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Track and Field Team.
 
Allen was the fastest collegiate woman in the 400-meter dash with an impressive time of 1:00.17 at the University of South Florida Invitational on March 12. She contributed to the 4x400 meter relay team that claimed second place with a time of 3:51.60 at the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Championships on March 23. Allen currently was part of the team that currently holds the institutional 4000 meter Distance Med Relay record time of 12:30.89, placed on April 4, 2015 at the University of South Florida Invite.
 
In his third year with the men's track and field team, Benjamin Manuel (Jr., Willemstad, Curacao) set the bar high with a 3.84 grade point average in management. His persistence and focus earned him a spot on the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's Track and Field Team. Manuel is also an active member of NSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Recently he was named to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic squad.
 
At the University of South Florida Invitational on March 12, Manuel recorded the second best time in the men's 1500 meter run with a time of 4:00.63. On March 16, Manuel placed second in the men's 400 meter dash at the Shark Invitational with a mark of 51.60. Most notably at the Peach Belt Conference 4x400 meter relay finals on April 23, his team placed third overall with a time of 3:16.85. Also at the 2016 PBC Championships, Manuel set the fourth fastest time in the men's 800 meter run at 1:54.99. Manuel is a current record holder for NSU in the men's 800 meter run category with a time of 1:52.99, set at the University of Miami Invitational on March 21, 2015. He also makes part of the 4x800 relay team that set the fastest time for NSU at the University of Florida Relays on April 4, 2015.
