WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team broke its three-game slump with a 3-1 win over host Rollins College on Friday evening. With the win, the Sharks move to 7-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play while Rollins falls to 7-6 and 1-3 in the league.
Denvyr Tyler-Palmer led all players with 17 kills and made it a double-double with 12 digs. Jessica Ronyak also added a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs and Megan Burns contributed 22 digs.
NSU came hot out of the gates in set one, hitting a flaming .486 as a team, with just one error committed throughout the whole set. The Sharks went on an early 9-2 run, capped with a kill by Tyler-Palmer, to grab the lead and never let go. The closest the Tars came throughout the rest of the set was four points, 16-12, after an NSU service error.
Set two was a closer battle between the two teams, seeing 10 ties early on with the score at 13-13. The Sharks grabbed the advantage after a 7-3 run, leading the Tars 20-16, before going back and forth for the eventual 25-20 win.
Nova Southeastern's offense just couldn't turn it on in the fourth set, as Rollins took an early 8-1 lead and continued to dominate offensively until it grabbed its only win of the night, 25-11.
The final set was very similar to the second, where the team teams battled for the lead, and were never more than three points apart. At 23-23, a kill by Tyler-Palmer put the Sharks in game-point position before an error committed by the Tars ended the game, and NSU earned the 3-1 victory.
The Sharks will return to action on Saturday, taking on SSC provisional member Embry-Riddle at the ICI Center. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m. Multimedia video streaming and live stats will be available by visiting erauathletics.com.
