FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – For the third straight week, Nova Southeastern has preserved its position atop the NCAA South Region standings, announced by the NCAA Wednesday afternoon.
As the region's No. 1 seed, the Sharks remain in control of their postseason destiny after adding two more victories to their resume a week ago. Last Wednesday, Nova Southeastern overcame an early deficit to beat Lynn 2-1 before clinching the program's first-ever outright Sunshine State Conference regular season title with a 2-0 shutout of Tampa. Now 12-3-1 overall, and 11-3-1 against Division II competition, the Sharks own the top RPI in the region along with the toughest in-region strength of schedule (0.558). Furthermore, head coach
John Constable's club has compiled a 3-1-1 record against teams within the region's top eight.
Mississippi College and West Florida stayed put as the region's No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. North Alabama, meanwhile, climbed to No. 4 with Barry, Lee, Florida Southern and Florida Tech rounding out the poll. The conference tournament champions from both the SSC and Gulf South Conference, as well as the remaining highest-ranked, non-automatic qualifiers, will make up the south region's six teams in the NCAA Tournament field, officially unveiled on November 6.
Kutztown (Atlantic), Central Missouri (Central), Adelphi (East), Grand Valley State (Midwest), Angelo State (South Central), Columbus State (Southeast) and UC San Diego (West) make up the remaining No. 1 seeds in the seven additional regions.
NSU will host Tampa this Friday at 7 p.m. ET in the second of two SSC Tournament semifinals. For complete coverage of the action, follow along on Twitter at @NSU_WSoccer and by clicking on the provided links on the
