Second Annual "Every Meter Matters" Event Raises Almost $2,000 For Curing Kids Cancer

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University rower Hannah DiLorenzo organized and hosted the second-annual "Every Meter Matters Row for a Cure" event that took place on Sunday, Mar. 19, and raised almost $2,000 for the Curing Kids Cancer.

"I am very pleased with the outcome," explained DiLorenzo. "I hope all who participated had fun but more importantly I am happy we were able to support Curing Kids Cancer and their mission of funding innovative research and treatments to find cures for all childhood cancers in our lifetime."

The event, held at the Don Taft University Center, featured music, food, giveaways and more. The NSU rowing team was onsite to teach attendees how to row. Individuals had the opportunity to race against the team, their fellow teammates and their friends and family. Over 140 Shark student-athletes and coaches also attended to take part and show their support, as 117,000m (73 miles) were rowed in total.

"Every Meter Matters is an amazing event which I look forward to every year," said junior rower Gabriella Lopez. "It's awesome to go out and allow people to gain insight on what we do while being able to give back to the community. It's a great experience to do what you love in order to help those in need. It's just icing on the cake to get to watch everyone else attempt to do what we do."

This year, NSU rowing chose Curing Kids Cancer as their organization of donation. Curing Kids Cancer is different from other nonprofits because its funding is strategically planned to bring together medical knowledge, technology, and genetics to discover and fund areas of rapidly developing research, ensuring treatments can be utilized as fast as possible for children.

"It is extremely rewarding to watch Hannah and her teammates give their time and energy to such a worthy cause," boasted Associate Athletic Director/SWA Kelley Kish. "I am proud that Hannah is a Shark and that her work on this event gives so much hope and support to Curing Kids Cancer."

Since its first year, Curing Kids Cancer has raised more than $9 Million for pediatric cancer research and treatment.
