FORT LAUDERDALE – Last Monday, Nova Southeastern University's Juan Jose (J.J.) Guerra had a career day that will forever put his name in the records books. On Sunday, the awards continued as
Golfweek named him to an elite group of 12 golfers who have earned Club 60 honors.
During the second round of the "Battle at the Shores" golf tournament hosted by Barry University last week, Guerra shot an 11-under-par 60 that set a new course, tournament and NSU school record for lowest round. After starting the tournament with an opening round of 73, Guerra started fresh with a trio of birdies in the second round and eagled the final hole to join college golf's elite Club 60. He finished the round with nine birdies to go along with the par-5 eagle on 18. He finished the 54-hole tournament with a six-under 207 to place second in the individual standings.
Since 1999, only 11 other college golfers have achieved Club 60 honors, 10 of which were from the Division I ranks. Only two have been from Division II including St. Thomas Aquinas's Michael Miranda who did it in 2015. Guerra becomes only the second from Division II.
