MELBOURNE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern University men's golf team is currently tied for second place after the first round of the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Championships hosted by Florida Tech. The Sharks opened with a first round 281 (-7) on the 7,051-yard, par-72 Duran Golf Club course on Sunday afternoon.
Each one of the top five teams shot under par during the opening round of the SSC tournament and are separated by a mere seven strokes. No. 3 Barry (-8) currently hold the tournament top spot by just one stroke. No. 4 Nova Southeastern and No. 5 Florida Southern are both seven-under and tied for second, while No. 8 Florida Tech (-4) is fourth. Saint Leo (-1) rounds out the top five.
At the conclusion of the first round NSU's Juan Jose Guerra
is currently atop the individual leaderboard. The sophomore fired an opening round 67 (-5) and carries a one-stroke lead heading into the second round of play.
(-2) followed with a first-round 70 and is tied for eighth place, while Richard Mansell
and Finlay Mason
both opened with even-par scores of 72 and tied for 19th
overall. Benjamin Hjort
(+6) is tied for 44th
to round out the NSU squad.
