FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A model student-athlete on and off the court, Nova Southeastern forward
Gerard Tarin has been named a First-Team Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
One of just two seniors on the Sharks roster, Tarin has taken on a larger leadership role in 2017-18 while averaging 10.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 20 starts. His efforts in the classroom are even more impressive, though, as the Lehigh Acres, Fla. product has posted a 3.44 Grade Point Average in Criminal Justice, including a 3.62 GPA over the course of 18 credits this past fall.
Tarin currently leads the team in field goal percentage (52.4 %) and has now recorded four double-doubles after an 18-point, 12-rebound performance against Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday.
Following his all-district recognition, Tarin will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in March.
The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
