Third Annual "Every Meter Matters" Event Raises More Than $1,500 For Curing Kids Cancer

Sharks student-athletes, coaches, family and friends row 142,032m in total

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Started in 2016 by Nova Southeastern University rowing alumni Hannah Di Lorenzo, the "Every Meter Matters Row for a Cure" event that took place on Wednesday, Feb. 21 helped raise $1,592 for the Curing Kids Cancer Foundation.

The event, held at the Don Taft University Center, featured music, food, giveaways and more. The NSU rowing team was onsite to teach attendees how to row. Individuals had the opportunity to race against the team, their fellow teammates and their friends and family. Over 50 Shark student-athletes and coaches also attended to take part and show their support, as 142,032m (88 miles) were rowed in total.

"I couldn't be happier with the outcome of our third-annual Every Meter Matters event," explained rower Lisette Villarreal. "We had over 50 participants and they all had a great time. The team always does a fantastic job with putting so much effort and heart into a cause bigger than themselves. It's amazing to see this event evolve more and more every year."

For Villarreal, helping with this event hit her close to home. "My younger sister was diagnosed with cancer when she was only 8 months old, so being able to help support an organization that seeks to end all pediatric cancers during our lifetime is especially meaningful."

For the second year in a row, NSU rowing chose Curing Kids Cancer as their organization of donation. Curing Kids Cancer is different from other nonprofits because its funding is strategically planned to bring together medical knowledge, technology, and genetics to discover and fund areas of rapidly developing research, ensuring treatments can be utilized as fast as possible for children.

Since its first year, Curing Kids Cancer has raised more than $11 Million for pediatric cancer research and treatment.
