Hughes Earns Sunshine State Conference Accolades

Junior guard named to All-SSC Second and Newcomer Teams

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern starting guard Alison Hughes received two postseason nods from the Sunshine State Conference, finding her name on the All-SSC Second Team and All-SSC Newcomer Team, as announced Thursday afternoon.

A junior from Janesville, Wisc., Hughes started in all but one of her 27 games played, leading the Shark squad with 13.1 points per game, ranking her in the Top-10 in the league. In addition, she also led NSU and the entire SSC with her 44.4 shooting percentage from long range and 75 total three-pointers.

"Alison has been great this season," explained head coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry. "She has been very consistent, committed and has evolved into a great leader on and off the court. The exciting thing is she will be helping us get better in the postseason workouts and be even better next season."

On Dec. 20, Hughes captured her first SSC Player of the Week honor, averaging 19.5 points in two wins over Benedict and Shaw. Hughes' career-high 28 points came from 9-of-16 shooting from the field and 7-of-13 from three-point range against the Bears, putting up the second-most points by any Sharks this season. Her seven treys also tied her for third in NSU history for 3-pointers in a game.

In a single season as a Shark, Hughes ranks No. 2 all-time in an individual season with her three-point shooting percentage (.444), No. 3 all-time in three's made (75) and No. 1 in three-point attempts (243).
