MELBOURNE, Fla. – Following a 4-0 performance that led to a pair of Sunshine State Conference wins, including an upset over No. 15 Florida Southern, Nova Southeastern's
Ana Navas received her first-ever SSC Women's Tennis Player of the Week award as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
"Well deserved for Ana," said head coach,
Doug Neagle. "She battled injury through the fall and did everything she can to get back on the courts. Her determination paid off and she has stepped up big for us in the No. 1 position."
Teamed with
Isabella Lowrey at No. 2 doubles, Navas picked up a huge 8-5 win over Florida Southern's Magda Stepnik and Nina Schwab. The pair later claimed an 8-1 win against Joyce Fields and Taylor Selby of Eckerd to secure their fourth straight win.
Playing at No. 1 singles, Navas picked up clutch 6-4, 6-0 win against Florida Southern's Lorena Rionda which sparked a come-from-behind win over the Moccasins. The native of Valencia Spain then took down Selby of Eckerd, 6-0, 6-2. With the pair of wins, Navas improves to 9-0, against Div. II opponents.
With the two wins, the Sharks improve to 5-8 overall and 3-2 in SSC play. NSU will try for a season-high third straight win as they travel to Winter Park, Fla.
