With 17 athletic teams on campus, the Nova Southeastern Sharks are always competing at the highest level. If you did not get a chance to follow your favorite teams this weekend, here is what you missed:
MEN’S SOCCER
The men’s soccer team played two matches in the Stanno Tournament and went 2-0 against Carson-Newman and Tusculum. On Friday, the Sharks played a neutral site game against the Carson-Newman Eagles and
won in overtime, 1-0. The game was sealed in the 99th on a free kick from 25 yards out by
James Pucci (Fr., Carrara, Italy),
who scored his first collegiate goal.
The Sharks completed the weekend with a
1-0 win over the host team, the Tusculum Pioneers. The Pioneers could not handle the Sharks’ strong defense as
they were held to one shot on goal.
Tyree Clarke (Fr., Birmingham, England) scored the game’s only goal in the 52nd minute. His first collegiate goal was assisted by
Halil Tozar (Fr., Berlin, Germany) on a highlight play from the right side of the box. The NSU defense was perfect as they shutout both opponents. Pucci,
Alvin Quaye (Sr., West Ham, England) and
Andrea Spuntarelli (Fr., Rome, Italy) all received All-Tournament Team honors.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team displayed excellent teamwork by scoring eight goals on six assists while defeating
Tusculum, 4-3 (2OT), and
Wingate, 4-1.
Sierra Lelii (Fr., Seminole, Fla.) scored
the game-winning goal for the Sharks against Tusculum and
Malin Broberg (So., Stockholm, Sweden) scored
the decisive goal for the Sharks against Wingate.
The games were filled with collegiate career-firsts for several Sharks, as Broberg scored her first multiple goal game,
Carolina Garcia (Fr., Miami, Fla.) made her first save in goal, and
Shadia Blair (Fr., Springfield, Mass.),
Andi Burchfield (Fr., Greenville, S.C.) and Lelii scored their first career goals.
