WINTER PARK, Fla. – Nova Southeastern women's basketball senior
Richelle Carach (Naples, Fla.) has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, presented by VALIC.
Carach averaged a double-double with 19.5 points and 10 rebounds per game to lead the No. 4 Sharks to a pair of victories over top-25 teams during the first weekend of play. The fourth-year player opened the 2013 season with 19 points and seven rebounds in a 90-87 win over No. 22 Washburn. Carach hit 2-of-3 from behind the arc after not attempting a 3-pointer last season.
Against No. 7 Stonehill, Carach recorded her first double-double of the season and set new career highs with 20 points and 13 rebounds. She also recorded two blocked shots and went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in a 96-77 win.
This is the first player of the week honor in Carach's career. Her team will return to action on Nov. 23 to face Kentucky State in Louisville, Ky. at 1 p.m.
