Aldabe and Gutierrez Named SSC Swimmers of the Week

Sharks sweep weekly All-SSC swimming awards.

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University's freshman duo, Marco Aldabe (Alicante, Spain) and Laura Gutierrez (Valenica, Spain) swept this week's Sunshine State Conference Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Week awards, presented by VALIC.   
 
Aldabe collected two first-place finishes and two NCAA provisional qualifying times to lead the No. 10 Sharks to a 120-85 win over No. 8 Tampa. He finished first in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:41.68 for his first of two provisional times. Aldabe then took first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.43 for his second national provisional time. He also was a part of the Sharks' 400-yard medley relay team that finished second in a time of 3:26.01.
 
Gutierrez recorded three first-place finishes to lead the No. 14 Sharks to a 113-92 win over No. 11 Tampa. She just missed an NCAA provisional time by 30 seconds in the 200-yard butterfly. Gutierrez swam the race in a time of 2:07.41 to take first-place. She also took first in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:10.25—less than two second from a national provisional time. Gutierrez was also a member of the winning 400-yard medley relay team that finished the race in a time of 4:01.67.
 
The Sharks will return to action Dec. 14-17 hosting the Fourth Annual NSU Shark Invitational at the NSU Aquatic Complex. The four-day invitational will feature nine different teams in Tampa, Florida Southern, Florida Tech, Lynn, Rollins Saint Leo, Lenoir Rhyne, Bellarmine and Florida International.
