Box Score
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's soccer team (4-1-0) handily defeated one of their biggest rivals, the Lynn Fighting Knights (1-2-0), 5-1, Wednesday night at the NSU Soccer Complex.
Senior
Malin Broberg (Stockholm, Sweden) scored a hat trick, two in the first half and one in the second half, and added an assist for the Sharks. Juniors
Andi Burchfield (Greenville, S.C.) and
Elizabeth Haumschild (Clearwater, Fla.) scored the second and third goals of the match.
"I'm proud of the girls tonight because we implemented a lot of the things we talked about in practice for the last month and in some cases the last year," said head coach Michael Goodrich. "We did a great job knocking the ball around and keeping possession. A lot of our goals came from great combination play. However, we still have a lot to work to do with the tough schedule ahead."
The scoring for the Sharks began in the eighth minute, after Broberg dribbled the ball into the box from the right side, and blasted a ball into the top right corner. The ball hit the back of the net before Knights goalkeeper Caitlin Shaver could even react to the shot.
The Sharks kept up the pressure, when four minutes later
Rut Kristjansdottir (Fr., Reykjavik, Iceland) played a ball on the ground to Burchfield, who was standing at the top left corner of the penalty box. Burchfield had time to take a touch into the box, and crush a left-footed shot through Shaver's hands and into the back of the net.
A great display of ball movement in the 18th minute resulted in goal number three for NSU.
Sarah Keville (So., Vero Beach, Fla.) played a ball towards the far corner flag, finding Broberg. Broberg then played a beautiful ball through the middle of the box, finding Haumschild wide open for an easy one-time finish.
The Sharks added another goal on Broberg's second goal of the match in the 25th minute. Broberg intercepted and errant pass out of the back from Lynn, finishing her one-on-one opportunity with the keeper. The Knights got a goal back in the 28th minute off a header from Linzi Martin on a corner kick, making the score 4-1 heading into halftime.
Broberg capped off her incredible night in the 65th minute, using her head for her seventh goal of the season.
Sandra Rolon (Jr., San Juan, P.R.) had another strong performance in goal, making four big saves on 11 Lynn shots.
The Sharks now head to Tampa for a match against the Spartans, Saturday Sept., 21st, with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
