FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern men's basketball's
Brian Cahill (Jr., Arlington, Va.) earned Capital One Academic All-District honors, as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday.
Cahill leads the team with 13.7 points, 3.9 assists and two steals per game. In the classroom, Cahill has earned a 3.76 GPA in his business administration graduate program. Last season, Cahill was selected to the NABC Honors Court. He will now be eligible for Academic All-American status, a prestigious honor recognizing 15 men's hoops players in all of NCAA Division II.
"Brian represents all the best characteristics you would want in a student-athlete," said head coach
Gary Tuell. "He's our co-captain and leader, he's overcome two back surgeries, displaying tremendous courage and he's a dedicated student who excels in the classroom and on the court. Brian has a wonderful, supportive family who gave him the foundation for success. He is one of our nation's best and brightest and it's a pleasure to be his coach."
This is the fourth straight year in which the men's basketball program has been honored by Capital One. Last season, the Sharks were the only men's team in the state of Florida across all divisions to receive the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award.
Cahill and the Sharks will look to stay in second place in the Sunshine State Conference when they travel to Lakeland, Fla. to take on No. 2 Florida Southern Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
