FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee was an active participant in NSU's Community Fest, last Saturday, Feb. 8.
"It was a great event to see how much the community really appreciates [NSU] and it was a fun event where a child's smile or giggle was enough to brighten your day," said women's soccer player and secretary of SAAC
Samantha Gestido (So., Hialeah, Fla.).
As part SAAC's community engagement initiative, they partnered up with Community Fest by offering activities involving sports and to the youth.
"Community Fest was a great opportunity for us to invite new people to our games and support the Sharks," said cross country runner and SAAC representative
Brandi Nichols (Sr., Inverness, Fla.). "The kids all had a blast, even the adult sized ones."
Members of four of the Sharks athletic programs, women's soccer, track and field, volleyball and rowing, all took the time to play a variety of games with the kids. The games included shooting basketballs, kicking around a soccer ball, playing volleyball and tossing a frisbee. SAAC also gave away tickets to the Palm Beach Atlantic basketball games during the Community Fest.
"Last Saturday was a huge success for SAAC," said Division II National SAAC representative and NSU baseball player
Roberto Baroniel (Jr., Miami). "I really want to give credit to Samantha Gestido, Brandi Nichols,
Tory Njardvik (So., Livingston, Mont.) and
Bethany Warlich (Fr., Leeds Point, N.J.) for taking charge and being the leaders within their teams to make this event possible."
