OAKRIDGE, Tenn. – The No. 1 Nova Southeastern rowing team placed second overall and first among NCAA Division II teams at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship Saturday.
In the varsity-8 semifinals, NSU finished second to Kansas State with a time of 7:02.9, three seconds behind their DI opponent. In the finals, NSU finished second again to the Wildcats with a time of 6:53.6. The Sharks defeated schools such as George Washington, Purdue and Dayton in the finals.
The V8 boat was comprised of: coxswain
Courtney Berger (Sr., Sarasota, Fla.),
Tori Torrisi (So., Saratoga, N.Y.),
Bethany Warlich (Fr., Leeds Point, N.J.),
Stephanie Hauck (Sr., Somers Point, N.J.), Megan O'Donnell (Jr., Lake Worth, Fla.),
Adrianna Rosario (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.),
Emily Harrington (Sr., Virginia Beach, Fla.),
Amanda Craig (Jr., Berlin, N.J.) and
Kelly Scott (Jr., Hobe Sound, Fla.).
"This weekend was a great show of what the Sharks can do when we pull together as a team," stated Harington. "The speed we had this weekend just excited the team for our future races."
In the varsity-4 semifinals, the Sharks finished second with a time of 8:01.5. They were five seconds behind Kansas State but 12 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. In the finals, the four boat finished second in a time of 8:00.6, once again five seconds off the Wildcats.

Cassily Lobaugh (Fr., Milton, Ga.),
Daesha Roberts (Fr., Yulee, Fla.),
Kelsey Obringer (Jr., Port Republic, N.J.) and
Remi McClellan (Jr., Mullica, N.J.).
"This weekend really tested our ability to stay calm in high intensity situation," said Berger. "We tackled the goals we set out for each boat and the team as a whole. Everybody has the same vision for where we are now and where we can go."
NSU will race in the 2014 Sunshine State Conference Championship on April 25 in Sarasota, Fla.
