WINTER PARK, Fla. – Three Nova Southeastern men's golfers were honored as members of the All-Sunshine State Conference second team, as voted on by the coaches and released by the league office on Wednesday.
Ricardo Celia (Sr., Barranquilla, Colombia),
Santiago Gomez (So., Armenia, Colombia) and
Hunter O'Mahony (So., Jupiter, Fla.) made up the majority of the conference's second team, marking the fourth All-SSC honor for Celia and second for O'Mahony, each in as many years.
"I'm very proud of the guys for their SSC All-Conference honors and their dedication to our vision as a program," said head coach Ryan Jamison. "These awards speak to their hard work on a daily basis. We are all looking forward to the postseason and working towards achieving our ultimate goal of a National Championship."
O'Mahony, who was Honorable Mention All-SSC a year ago, was the team's low scorer this season at 72.5. He had a stretch of the final two fall events and first two spring events where he was eighth or better, with a high of third at the Armstrong Pirate Men's Invitational in February. He also had the team's best round of the year, a 66 during the second 18 holes of that event.
In his first year with the Sharks, Gomez averaged an even 73.0 per round, second on the squad, and equaled O'Mahony with four top-10 finishes. His best finish of third came in the first event of the spring, the Matlock Collegiate Classic.
Celia was honorable mention as a freshman and, as both a sophomore and junior, named to the first team. He ranks just behind his two fellow All-Conference honorees at 73.5 this year, and saved his top finish for the most recent event, the 2014 SSC Championships, where he tied for third. His three top-10 finishes this year gives him 16 in four seasons with the team.
The trio next looks to compete at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional, which will take place May 5-7 at the Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga.
