Alex Fernandez picks up his first award as a Shark, the second award this year for the Varsity-8 boat.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Alexander Fernandez (Jr., Davie, Fla.) of the No. 10 baseball team and the varsity-8 boat earned Sunshine State Conference honors, presented by VALIC, as announced by the conference office Monday.

Nova Southeastern junior first baseman Fernandez led the No. 10 Sharks to a 4-1 week, including a three-game conference series sweep of No. 19 Saint Leo. Fernandez finished the week hitting .600 (9-of-15) with seven RBI and four runs scored. More impressively, the junior slugged 1.067 with seven doubles—five doubles against Saint Leo. In game two against the Lions, Fernandez went 4-of-5 at the plate with four doubles, three RBI and three runs scored in a 22-3 victory. The four doubles in a single game is the most by any player in the NCAA era for the NSU Sharks.
