FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
Alexander Fernandez (Jr., Davie, Fla.) of the No. 11 baseball team was just named the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association South Region Hitter of the Week.
Nova Southeastern junior first baseman Fernandez led the No. 11 Sharks to a 4-1 week, including a three-game conference series sweep of No. 19 Saint Leo. Fernandez finished the week hitting .600 (9-of-15) with seven RBI and four runs scored. More impressively, the junior slugged 1.067 with seven doubles—five doubles against Saint Leo. In game two against the Lions, Fernandez went 4-of-5 at the plate with four doubles, three RBI and three runs scored in a 22-3 victory. The four doubles in a single game is the most by any player in the NCAA era for the NSU Sharks. Fernandez finished the series versus the Lions going 7-of-11 at the plate with five doubles, four RBI and four runs scored.
Earlier in the week, Fernandez picked up his first Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week Award for his performances last week.
